Frequently asked questions#
Short answers to questions that come up while setting Lykia up. Each answer names the part of this guide that covers its subject in full.
Why does my store show placeholders instead of photos?#
Because Lykia installs without photographs. The theme ships a preset, not a catalog: no products, collections or images are included. Where a card, tile or slide exists to show a picture, an empty image slot shows Shopify's neutral placeholder graphic so the layout stays visible while you build; add your own image in the theme editor and it replaces the placeholder.
The same rules explain a section that seems to be missing. A section added from Add section arrives with short sample content that shows what it is for, so it shows at once; clear it all and it leaves the published page rather than showing an empty band. A few sections need something only you can supply — a product, an end date, a boutique — and show only in the theme editor until you set it. Each section's entry in this guide says what it shows when empty. (See What a section shows before you add content, under Getting started.)
How do I change the colors and fonts?#
Store-wide colors are in Theme settings → Colors, and the two store-wide fonts, Heading font and Body font, are in Theme settings → Typography, chosen from Shopify's font library. Many sections also have color pickers of their own: these change that section only, and within it they win over the store-wide colors. Two sections set type independently: Scrolling marquee has its own font picker, and Hero text reveal's Font family setting uses the body font, the heading font, or a mix of the two. (See Colors and Typography, under Theme settings.)
How do I offer gift wrapping, and can I charge for it?#
Gift wrapping ships switched off. Check Enable gift wrapping in Theme settings → Gift wrapping and a gift-wrap switch appears in the cart drawer. Then choose how it is priced:
- Free wrapping. Leave Product handle blank. Nothing is added to the cart total, and while Show price on toggle is on, as installed, the switch reads "Complimentary" where a price would be.
- Paid wrapping. Create a product for the wrapping in your Shopify admin, set its price, keep it out of your collections, and paste its handle into Product handle. Turning the switch on then adds that product to the cart at its price, and the option also appears on the cart page. If the handle doesn't match a product, or that product can't be bought, the switch shows but can't be turned on.
As installed, the same panel also offers a gift message (Show gift message field), recipient and sender fields (Show recipient and sender fields) and a choice of wrapping styles (Show wrapping style choices). The styles are Wrapping Style blocks in the Cart drawer section; the three that arrive installed, Classic Gold, Midnight Blue and Rose Pink, are yours to rename, recolor or remove. What the customer chooses is saved with their cart. (See Gift wrapping, under Theme settings, and Cart drawer, under Cart.)
Why don't the Delivery and Returns tabs show?#
On the product page, Description, Delivery, Returns and Care share one row of tabs, built from the blocks of the same names in the Product section. The tabs follow the order of those blocks, and each tab's name is its block's Tab label. Description always shows, with the product's own description from your Shopify admin. The other three appear only when their block has something to show:
- Delivery needs a cost or a time on at least one of its three rows. As installed, the rows are named Standard, Express and International but carry no costs or times, so the tab stays hidden until you add them.
- Returns needs text in its Opening paragraph or Closing paragraph. Both install empty.
- Care needs at least one item, or the product's
lykia.care_instructionsmetafield, which replaces the items for that product. It installs with two items, so it shows from the start.
So a fresh install shows Description and Care only. Removing a block removes its tab, and with all four removed the row disappears. (See Product, under Product page.)
How do I list my boutiques and offer in-store pickup?#
These are two separate features.
- In-store pickup is Shopify's own local pickup. Set up a pickup location in Settings → Shipping and delivery → Local pickup in your Shopify admin, and the product page shows pickup availability for any variant a location has pickup enabled for. It is controlled by the Product section's Show pickup availability setting, which is on as installed.
- The boutique directory is the Store list section, which ships on its own page template,
page.stores. To publish it, go to Online Store → Pages in your Shopify admin, add a page titled "Stores" so that its handle isstores, and choosestoresin its Theme template menu. Then open the page in the theme editor and replace the three example Boutique blocks (Mayfair, Milano and Paris) with your own. The store-locator link in the Announcement bar appears only once a page with the handlestoresexists, and while Show store locator is on, as installed.
(See Pickup availability, under Product page, and Store list, under Other templates.)
Why isn't the Pairs well with section showing?#
Pairs well with is on the product template as installed, and its Recommendation type starts on Complementary (pairs well with): it shows only products you have linked as complementary in the Shopify Search and Discovery app, and on a product with none linked it stays hidden. Link complementary products in that app, or switch Recommendation type to Related (similar products), which uses Shopify's own similar-product recommendations and needs no app setup. (See Pairs well with, under Product page.)
How do I add product reviews?#
Lykia doesn't collect reviews itself. Install a review app from the Shopify App Store, then add the app's block to the Product section on your product template, the same way you add the theme's own blocks: it shows where you place it among the other blocks. Featured product accepts app blocks too. The app supplies the reviews and their look. Setting up the review app itself is outside theme support. (See Product, under Product page.)
Why did the countdown on my product page disappear?#
Because, as installed, a Product countdown that has passed its end date removes itself from the page: Hide entire section when expired, in Theme settings → Countdown timer, is checked on install. The theme editor always shows the expired state instead, so you can see and style it; the removal happens only on the storefront. Uncheck the setting to show the expired message after the end date. To send shoppers elsewhere instead, uncheck it and set When timer expires to Redirect to URL, then fill in Redirect URL (when expired): while the box is checked, it hides the section before any redirect. These two settings apply to Product countdown only: the Countdown timer and Countdown banner sections show their own expired message when they end. (See Product countdown, under Product page.)
Does Lykia work in other languages?#
Yes. Lykia includes its storefront text in English and German, and the theme editor's labels and help texts are in English, some also in German. Storefront text — from buttons to cart and form messages, plus the text you type into section settings — can be translated into other languages with Shopify's Translate & Adapt app after you add a language in Settings → Languages in your Shopify admin.
Text typed into a section's settings, including the starter headings a fresh install arrives with, is store content rather than theme text, as are your products, collections, pages and menus: translate it in Shopify as you would any other store content. To change the wording of the theme's own text, choose Edit default theme content from the theme's ⋯ menu in Online Store → Themes. (See A note on languages, under Getting started.)
Where do I get help, and how do I see what changed?#
Start with this guide: it is organized the same way as the theme editor, and the search box above the contents finds any heading or setting name. If you still need help, send a request from the support page, which also sets out what support covers and what to include. We aim to reply within 24–48 hours during support hours, and every request receives a reply within two business days (Monday to Friday, UK time).
Each version's changes are listed in the release notes. Your installed version is shown under the theme's name in Online Store → Themes.
